THINGS TO SEE AND DO IN TAHITI

culture

Museum of Tahiti and her islands Punau’auia

Te Fare Manaha is a territorial public institution. Its mission is to collect, preserve, restore, reproduce and present to the public collections relating to the heritage of Oceania, and more specifically Polynesia. It may organize or participate in the organization of cultural events. As an organization dedicated to the promotion, study and dissemination of this heritage, the Museum has acquired over the years a role of expertise in the preservation of tangible and moveable cultural assets. Today, it is the main institution in French Polynesia to offer visitors the opportunity to discover the treasures of Polynesia’s natural and cultural heritage in a single space. Located in a three-hectare park at Nu’uroa Point, in the commune of Puna’auia, the Museum of Tahiti and the Islands also features an ethnobotanical trail.

James Norman Hall Museum Arue

It’s a must if you’re spending a few days on Tahiti’s main island and are interested in literature and history. James Norman Hall was a fascinating man who loved Tahiti and French Polynesia. He was also a war veteran who wrote extensively – and not just about the Bounty Mutiny! The house is tastefully furnished with memorabilia and family heirlooms. Vivienne and Tere are perfect bilingual hostesses and a mine of information, not about James Norman Hall, but about all of French Polynesia. The gardens surrounding the house are beautiful and serene. Lunch in the garden is available if you pre-book the day before. Everything is done with true Tahitian hospitality and a smile. Books are available for purchase, as is coffee after your visit. Parking is available across the road (water side). Don’t miss it!
